Google Vs Yahoo seo dilemma
Have you noticed how hard it is to seo a competitive keyword for both Yahoo and Google at the same time? You would often find yourself ranking well in one of the search engines but not the other. The main problem is in algorithm differences. Even though Google started giving more weight to keyword density over the last few years it is still trailing behind Yahoo. In plain words Google is still pretty much about quality backlinks, whereas Yahoo loves high keyword density (5% +) and does not give as much weight to backlinks. “So what is the problem then?” - you may ask. Why not just increase your keyword density to keep both search engines happy? The problem is that Google has been known to penalise seo-ers for keyword stuffing. Even though sometimes the so called “keyword stuffing” can be minor and not so deliberate. This is quite interesting actually because some seo-ers are able to get away with this and other don’t.
Every time i start a seo campaign i face this dilemma. Do i want to rank on Google or Yahoo? I think Yahoo is yet to win. Even though in some cases you might find yourself better off ranking in Yahoo rather than Google.
PS: It is possible to rank well on both search engines without having to take the risk of fiddling with your keyword density. Its just you will need to improve other seo aspects such as backlinks quality and age in order to balance out the lack of keyword density, which will take time and effort.

I’ve been noticing when investigating niches, that very rarely will a site be in both google and yahoo for the top 3 of a keyword phrase. And when it is, it’s only one site, as opposed to all 3 or 5, or even all in the top 10.
Also, waiting on the “time” factor is something most new webmasters struggle with. They want the JohnChow popularity now, they want the #1 search engine ranking now, and they want 40,000 backlinks now. Many don’t realize that the time they spend wasting trying to figure out how to instantly become that popular, that high i nthe rankings, or to get that many backlinks instantly, they neglect to do anything, and they’ll NEVER get to that spot. Sorry… just a rant.

IMHO, Yahoo search is more accurate since it is based on the keyword. While it is very often Google search returning Wikipedia page

I can’t see anything wrong with that. If i wanted to know what nofollow was and searched for it, Wikipedia would have been an excellent resource. You can exclude Wikipedia from your results anyway.

I usually aim for a good ranking in Google and then just keep adding backlinks over time. Eventually, you rank well in both. I don’t give a whole lot of thought to the differences in the two. I just try to make good content, sprinkle in some keywords, and let my backlinks do the rest.

Am based in South Africa, and Google totally dominates the search engines in our country. When analysing Adwords and Analytics data we get fewer than 1 percent share of organic queries coming in via Yahoo, whilst Google makes up the bulk of the balance. Why even MSN is more popular than Yahoo in our country!

I’ve noticed through testing over the last year how Yahoo places so much more emphasis on Meta tags than Google does. I had to create a resources page and then started to utilize social media sites in order to resemble the kind of success on Google that I had on Yahoo.
