Lets face it. They only way you are going to be successful online is by working your ass off or doing clever and original things. Oh and you might have to get lucky sometimes. However those who do work hard and those who do have a head for Internet marketing, can achieve incredible success. The only problem (Unless you are a workaholic) is actually keeping motivated and getting yourself to do the work. It is very easy to get distracted when working for yourself. Whenever i get lazy i think about this guy who i used to work with around 5 years ago. I find his story very inspirational. (Lets call him Mike)
For one reason or another Mike was no longer able to work offline. Because he was into photography he decided to start his own photography and design forum/community. The plan was to generate money, shifting photography related products via various affiliates. The only problem was that Mike has only learned how to start his computer the other month. I mean… that guy was way way way behind anyone else. Some people struggle with HTML, he struggled to understand what a browser was. Forget SEO and marketing. After finally getting help with the forum, domain and what not, it was time for Mike to start promoting it. Do you know what he would do? He would go and personally ask various photographers, one by one to join his forum. Every day he would sit in front of his computer for hours emailing and PMing individual people. A few weeks later when i had a chance to speak to Mike it turned out that he has achieved very little indeed. I then advised him to try a few other methods but he would not listen. Instead he started to work harder and for longer hours. He just would not give up…
After bumping into Mike again a year or so later and asking him how his business, i was not expecting to hear “Excellent!” as a reply. He was now running a hugely popular community. And not just any other community. Because he was personally speaking to and inviting members he has managed to really connect with his community. He made tons of friends, he had tons of people willing to help him promote their community and the general atmosphere in his forums was incredibly friendly. And to top it all up he was making more money than me with all my fancy tricks and methods… 10 times more… Simply because he has managed to stay positive, motivated and truly worked hard towards his dream.

I was doing a bit of keyword research with Adwords sandbox when Google decided to express its opinion on quality of GPS through captcha. Just found this quite amusing and decided to post it here.

I’m in the process of writing up a little guide on niche research to follow up my entry on importance of niche marketing. It will hopefully help you find new and most importantly, profitable niches. I have also become a member of a very exciting, closed webmaster community where people are not afraid to share their ideas. I must say I’m very impressed with some of the SEO/Money making concept we discussed. I may well be sharing some of these in near future. Also, if there are any particular subjects you want me to touch on or you have any ideas on how i could improve this blog, go ahead and leave a comment.
Just a quick blog… If you have any SEO/Marketing related questions i will be more than happy to answer those. Simply comment on this post. Within a few weeks i will be posting a list of FAQs. Meanwhile i will think of something interesting to blog about.
PS: There are rumours that another PageRank update is upon us. I checked my network of sites on different IPs etc and could not see any changes.
Here are a few plugins i use that save me a lot of time. Hopefully you will find these handy.
Do you know how when you start a new tab Firefox gives you a blank page. Why not give you your homepage instead? This Tabbrowser Preferences plugin will help you solve this problem. It will allow you to tweak your tabbed browser experience as well as define the page you want to load when a new tab is opened.
Informenter saves me a lot of time filling in various online forms. With this plugin you can simply predefine a bunch of commonly used lines of text. For example your name and email address. You will then be able to paste this information into any form with 2 quick clicks.
Column Bookmarks allows you to display your bookmarks in multiple columns rather than having to scroll up and down.
Use Adsense Notifier plugin to display your Adsense earnings within your browser. Very handy for Adsense stats addicts who can’t help but check their earnings every 10 minutes.
This one is a must have for any webmaster. SearchStatus displays the Google PageRank, Alexa rank and Compete ranking anywhere in your browser, along with fast keyword density analyser, keyword/nofollow highlighting, backward/related links, Alexa info and other SEO tools.
I was doing a bit of work for this guy when i stumbled across a few SEO blogs. What i noticed is that these blogs contained nothing but various stories including those “OMG this site has been banned by Google”, SEO news that did not really teach me anything and various “Iv made $1000 today! Here is the screenshot!” posts. I browsed through around 30 blog posts and could not find anything that would actually be useful to me. So why do people read these kind of blogs? Should i also make a few “look at my site, this is how much money i make” posts? Basically let me know how i can make this blog better. I’m working on design at the moment. I know its crap.
PS: I have just installed the top commentators plugin so go ahead and get a front page dofollow link for commenting.
