ping

When mass producing new pages or changing some content I like to send a ping to a bunch of update services to let them know that my page has been updated or there is some new content around. There are some pingers out there that require you to tick a bunch of boxes, enter your url and possibly even your email address. It just takes too much time. There is a pinger built into your wordpress blog but what if you need to ping an outside page like a new Squidoo lens you have just created. Here is how you can quickly create a ping button for your Firefox. Simply hit the button and your current page will get pinged.

Here is the javacode that you need:

javascript:location.href='http://pingomatic.com/ping/?
title='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)
+'&blogurl='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)
+'&chk_weblogscom=on&chk_blogs=on&chk_technorati=on&chk_feedburner
=on&chk_syndic8=on&chk_newsgator=on&chk_myyahoo=on&chk_pubsubco
m=on&chk_blogdigger=on&chk_blogrolling=on&chk_blogstreet=on&chk_mo
reover=on&chk_weblogalot=on&chk_icerocket=on&chk_newsisfree=on&chk_
topicexchange=on&chk_google=on&chk_tailrank=on&chk_bloglines=on&chk
_aiderss=on&chk_skygrid=on&chk_audioweblogs=on&chk_rubhub=on&chk_
geourl=on&chk_a2b=on&chk_blogshares=on'

Right click on your bookmarks toolbar and create a new bookmark. Call it Ping or whatever you like. In location field copy and paste the javascript above and click on add. You are done! Navigate to the page you would like to ping and hit the button.

Ilia, you are a legend! And at the ripe old age of 22, to boot! This is a cool follow up on your post regarding backlink development buffer circles. Am adding it to Firefox straight away!

Good to see you contributing with your comments. I must say that I did not come up with the ping button so the credit should really go to somebody. However I don’t think they were using it to ping their web 2.0 properties on the large scale.

Ilia

Great tip.

I just tried it for my Squidoo lens and got a:
SLOW DOWN COWBOY

Does Squidoo automatically ping when you update?

Can’t seem to get the same result in Firefox 3.0.7. I can’t find the location field. Oh well. I’ll keep looking.

If you click on the full screen when watching the video things should get clearer.

Hello, just supr the “blank” after /ping/?
Thanks for your tips, but now pingomatic is hs? it’s run always for you?

13 Ilia 03.08.09 at 11:24 am

I don’t quite understand you there. Sorry…

14 Biloute 03.09.09 at 11:12 am

Sorry for my poor english :D

Pingomatic return always “slow down cow boy” since three days…

15 Ilia 03.09.09 at 1:22 pm

No problem Biloute, your English is fine.

A lot of people have been having the same problem including myself recently. You can try using a proxy because sometime Pingomatic stops people from abusing their service with excessive pinging.

I’m now addicted to it, each time when i make any web 2.0 property i use to ping it with just a click.
